CEH is one of the best certifications I have because it emphasizes hands-on skills as opposed to certifications that are more theory based.

Where are EC-Council offices located?

EC-Council was incorporated in Nevada and operated through a rep office in New York with the North American market being its primary focus.  It quickly went on to establish offices in India and Malaysia to cater to surging demand across the Asia-Pacific market.

As EC-Council grew, we moved out of this service mode and opened our full US office in Albuquerque New Mexico, Co-housed with the administrative professionals running the EC-Council University. Today, EC-Council manages its business from its headquarters in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA providing the innovation, leadership and direction for its certification business globally.

EC-Council does have a complete team of fulltime staff there available to assist the member base and partners alike. EC-Council’s training division, EC-Council | iClass, along with EC-Council | Global Services, and EC-Council | Academia are all housed in the United States.

EC-Council works with partners globally to ensure its certifications are available to professionals everywhere.  Through its emphasis and focus on working with partners, EC-Council is today working with over 450 training partners in all 6 continents of the world.

As a newly established institution of higher learning, is EC-Council University (ECU) a credible institution?

EC-Council | University (ECU) was established because of current and projected future global demands for well educated and well trained Information Security leaders.  It was founded and funded by EC-Council, an organization with the vision of turning today’s knowledge workers into tomorrow’s information security leaders. EC Council is a leader in High tech security certification and the University will offer higher levels of education.

EC-Council University is licensed by the New Mexico Higher Education Department. EC-Council University is currently in the process of accreditation with an agency recognized by the United States Department of Education and CHEA.

As with the usual process of building a respected University, there is a process that needs to be followed.  This requires time to establish respected programs that foster superior professional development.

ECU is no exception. Most if not all accreditation agencies require applicant Universities to exist for at least 2 years BEFORE they can even qualify to begin their lengthy accreditation process. Another requirement for beginning the accreditation process is that the applicant University must have at least one graduating class before they qualify.

The Masters of Security Science (MSS) is a natural progression for many of our top certified members looking for more than industry certifications. With direction by ECU Board of Regents, whose members consist of respected industry professionals and academicians, EC-Council University is committed to the long-term process of establishing an institution of higher learning that is focused toward the research and learning of information security.

Can you explain why EC-Council University choose to relocate from Wyoming to New Mexico?

On January 10, 2006 EC-Council University received a unanimous vote by the Wyoming board of Education to operate as a post secondary degree granting institution in the state.

The Department of Education delayed issuing the license until February 24th, 2006. The license that was issued was valid until June 30, 2010. (See minutes of the board meeting here)

March 13 a letter was written by the Director of Finance of the Wyoming Department of Education advising the EC Council that the newly issued license would expire on June 30, 2006. Enclosed with this letter was a copy of Senate bill 69 which eliminates licensing by the Wyoming Board of Education and that private schools must now be registered with the Wyoming Department of Education.

To be registered, ECU must prove that it is a candidate or applicant of an accreditation agency which is recognized by the US Department of Education.

This has to be accomplished no later than July 1, 2006 or the Department would not register the EC Council University.

However, accreditation agencies recognized by the US Department of Education require that a University has to have graduates before they can begin the accreditation process and that a school has to be licensed for at least 2 years PRIOR to even being considered!

ECU was prepared to meet all requirement of any accreditation agency recognized by the US Department of Education, but the actions taken by the state of Wyoming did not allow them to even enter the process of accreditation.

ECU then decided to relocate and received a license issued by the state of New Mexico.

EC Council University has now met the requirements for candidacy and is in the process of accreditation with an agency recognized by the United States Department of Education and CHEA.

Who are some of the members of EC-Council?

EC-Council is a for-profit, member-based organization. Inputs and directions from these industry and academic experts in many ways shape the many certification programs and services offered to its students and members.

The Honorary Council of EC-Council is made up of individuals with years of experience in the field of Information Security and whose tireless and unselfish contributions to EC-Council benefits many of our members in many different ways.  Many of our Honorary Council members travel across the globe to evangelize greater information security knowledge and awareness.

Many are active speakers at EC-Council events such as the Hacker|Halted Conference globally and many other Information Security Events all over the world supported by EC-Council.(go to www.hackerhalted.com)

EC-Council’s Licensed Penetration Testing Board  consists of information security leaders from world-class institutions like Deloitte Consulting, US Department of Defense, HP, US Air Force and IBM. They contribute to the development of EC-Council’s Licensed Penetration Testing standards.

Is there demand for Licensed Penetration Testers?

The Licensed Penetration Tester (LPT) is in fact an elite license. Achieving the LPT is proof that the individual has undergone both the CEH and the ECSA training programs and certification exams. They are required to meet other stringent criteria. We respect the privacy of our certified members and do not make their information public; however major global information security firms, Top Secret Military Positions, and well-known Security consulting agencies employ our LPT’s.

What is the value of EC-Council’s CEH?  It is more than just a collection of the latest security tools ?

The Certified Ethical Hacker is one of the world’s most respected Ethical Hacking, Tools Based Certifications out there in the market today.

Students are immersed in five full days of Security Methodologies, processes, and tools. All of the tools, virus’, Malware, etc are real, used in the real world, by real hackers. The aim is to educate and arm Information Security Professionals with the tools and know-how based on what really exists in today’s Information Society.

True to EC-Council’s vendor neutral stance, it does not gravitate to any single vendor, or tool. C|EH is the only course in the world to offer a truly vendor neutral, complete immersion in the weaponry used in today’s digital warfare. Combined with our Professional Instruction and Industry recognition, the CEH is much more than tools you can find out on the internet.

Read coverage from international media here:

What happens to CEH holders who abuse their knowledge?

EC-Council and our Authorized Training Centers take the necessary precaution to issue notice and briefings to students on the ethics of being an information security professional.

All candidates are required to strictly abide by the EC-Council Code of Ethics. Prior to attending this course, students will be asked to sign an agreement stating that they will not use the newly acquired skills for illegal or malicious attacks and that they will not use such tools in an attempt to compromise any computer system, and to indemnify EC-Council with respect to the use or misuse of these tools, regardless of intent. EC-Council will investigate all complains about its members and based on facts, will suspend or revoke its members’ certifications.

How well received is the CEH in the global industries?

CEH was ranked with the second highest increase in pay for 2008 according to a recent independent research firm. With well over 20,000 certified Ethical Hackers around the Globe, all with employer references, this is simply not true. Certified Ethical Hackers make an average salary in the United States of 75,000 + according to multiple independent salary surveys readily available online. C|EH is not only in demand, having a C|EH on staff can save organizations hundreds of thousands of dollars in unnecessary IT Security Consulting Expenses.

I am Impressed!

"I am very impressed with the EC-Council CEH curriculum. It covers all the aspects of IT security and is sufficient to help you in stepping into the
world of professional ethical hacking. It not only teaches you "What is hacking" but also teaches you "How to hack" and "How to defend your systems from hackers.

This is one of the very few certifications with emphasis on "Web Application Security" which is one of the major area of concern for corporates.

The knowledge of techniques and tools covered will definitely help the ethical hackers in providing better services to their clients."
